Holiday cookie exchange 2016!

‘Tis the season! I am just coming back home from delivering cookies to our neighbors!

Baking isn’t my forte or my cup of tea at all, but baking for other people once a year is doable (well, with A LOT OF help from the hubby).

For the neighborhood cookie exchange, we baked two kinds of cookies. Got ideas and recipes from the Food  Network magazine.

These tiramisu sandwich cookies were the bomb! Well, they could have been a little more moist but they tasted delish. I mean, how bad can they be when they have cocoa, espresso, vanilla, mascarpone cheese, cream cheese, Kahlua, butter, butter, more butter, sugar, sugar and SUGAR! 😉

Then, hubby’s choice: peanut butter crinkles! These are firm on the outside and gooey inside…. Heaven in my mouth!

I gotta say, though. Every time I bake something, I keep thinking, “this much sugar?” 😂 These peanut butter cookies had brown sugar, granulated sugar and powdered sugar (lots of it😱). Oh well, not now then when, right?

It’s been so hectic. Now I’m ready to sit back and enjoy some Christmas music. Happy holidays!!

Some bakeries are meant to be just for pick-up baked goods for your busy morning. However, this place gives you that option PLUS it’s a cool place to hang out with your friends.20130622-195202.jpg

Not only do they have different – meaning that this might not be for “everyone”- but also they serve various coffee drinks and my favorite Korean dessert, patbingsu! It’s shaved ice with sweetened red beans and condensed milk. This might sound very foreign but once you go patbingsu, there’s no turning back! Highly recommended if you are somewhat food-adventurous 😉 20130622-200009.jpg If you go there early enough, you get to taste their breads for free! We went there around 9 am today and they put out so many kinds to try. They cut up the bread into small pieces. Some last all day but they are the best in the morning when they just come out of the oven. If you like what you taste, you can buy it. If you don’t, you can just get their Illy coffee and walk out! Do some people totally take advantage of it and just eat quite a bit without paying a dime? Oh yes. 🙂 20130622-195228.jpg

Their cake choices are quite delightful too. One thing I’ve noticed here in the states is that cakes are not that “pretty”. They don’t need to look beautiful but I am sometimes so amazed how some cakes look just boring. Shilla bakery has cakes that are really “Korean”: lots of fruits, lots of decorations. 20130622-195218.jpg

Next time you are in Annandale, drop by and treat yourself!

▣ Yelp Rating: ★★★★★ (almost! 😉 as of December 27, 2012) – Click for more info!

This very hip, fun eatery / coffee house / wine bar is located a little off Clarendon Blvd in Arlington. As soon as you walk in, you sense great coffee aroma, see all the wine bottles and smell the food. The owners, Oby and Ula, are the friendliest people that you will ever meet! 🙂

Oby_Wine

Say hi to the snowman! 🙂 The best thing about Oby Lee to me is that they KNOW coffee. Oby, the roast master, actually roasts beans himself. Even their flavored coffee drinks, including the m.a.g.i.c.a.l peanut butter cup latte, are really great! (Just talking about it makes me wanna go get it now!)

Oby_Latte

Oby Lee is one of those places, where you get your food and drinks and, at the same time, keep looking at other people’s dishes, thinking, “Man… What is that? That looks delicious too!”

Oby_PuffinNot only do they have great breakfast options, such as the “Puffins”, they also have savory quiches to die for. Oby_quicheNot a big fan of quiches? That’s ok. Here’s what I always get! CREPES!!! The picture below is their roasted chicken salad crepe, which is served with baby green salad. You can see them make it with the cool crepe maker and it’s really fun. Oby_Crepe_ChickenEven when I drop by after dinner, I get this crepe below! Strawberry and whipped cream crepe! It’s very berry delicious! I one day took some of my friends and they LOVED the banana nutella crepe. That’s right. Bananas + Nutella = Heaven!Oby_Crepe_StrawberryThere’s one reason why other “coffee & wine” places around here can’t beat Oby Lee. WINE FOUNTAIN! I love thee, fountain. I am not a much of a drinker. However, I enjoy sipping on wine. The problem usually is that I end up getting drunk after a half glass. Oby Lee has solved this problem! You can purchase their wine card and charge it at the counter. This machine gives you three options: full glass, half glass and TASTING – my favorite! To people like me, it’s perfect! I can still taste 4 different wines and stay sober!Oby_FountainSo, bottoms up! Next time you visit Oby Lee, if you see me, come say hi! 🙂
